Wood fencing is still one of the most popular fencing materials in North America. Many people prefer the look and warmth that wood offers. Oz-Post offers a wide range of products specifically designed for the wood fencing market. The wood fencing market can be broken up into three distinct groups; there are dimensional wood posts, random sized posts and steel posts. Most residential fencing use dimensional lumber for posts like 4x4’s, 4x6’s and 6x6’s. In some areas, especially in the south, many customers are electing to use steel posts for their wooden fencing. Steel does offer the advantage of being rot resistant and will also not warp like wood posts can. Be sure to look at our IS-FBL and IS-FBS fence brackets for steel post fences. Also there are many pictures in our photo gallery where you can get construction ideas. The final wood fence style is post and rail or farm style fencing. This type of fencing uses random sized posts and because of this Oz-Post does not offer a model that will easily accommodate these posts. You can trim your wood posts to fit an Oz-Post that is close in size. One thing to keep in mind is that throughout the country many areas name post sizes in different ways. So to avoid confusion Oz-Post uses actual sizes and not nominal sizes in our specifications. For example you may order a “4x4” at your lumber yard but the actual size may be 3 ½” or 3 ¾” or even full 4” square. For this reason we recommend measuring the posts that you are intending to use and matching the size to the corresponding Oz-Post support. For “standard” 4x4’s which are 3 ½” square you will order the T4-850. For rough cut 4x4’s which are about 3 ¾” square you will order C4-850 and for full cut 4x4’s you will need P4-850. The standard size for steel posts for wood fencing is 2 3/8” OD steel tubing. The Oz-Post model for this style of fencing is ISW-850. Whatever style of wood fence you decide to build, the one thing that you can be sure of is that it will look great and stay strong with Oz-Post supports. One advantage of using Oz-Post with wood fence posts is that the wood will last longer because it is not buried in the ground. Always keep in mind that your posts will be shorter when using Oz-Post because you are not burying any wood in the ground. Use your imagination when choosing wood as it is one of the easiest materials to make a unique style of fence that is all your own. There are some pressure treated timbers that are treated with a chemical called ACQ that is particularly harmful to steel. Oz-Posts are hot dipped galvanized and are designed to be able to withstand this harmful chemical. There are only two materials that are approved for use with ACQ and they are stainless steel and hot dipped galvanized.
